Upcoming: PhDeaf Workshop and Writing Retreat — 7 to 11 December 2026. Registrations will open soon.
Since 2018, Dr Deaf has organised regular workshops — mainly Writing Retreats each May and PhDeaf/Writing Retreat combinations each December — held at Ål folkehøyskole in Ål, Norway.

Our workshops are hosted at Ål Folk High School (Ål folkehøyskole) in Ål, Norway.
PhDeaf Workshops
Open to participants from all disciplines, and to both current and aspiring PhDs. Topics include academic writing, applying for a PhD, selecting supervisor(s), accessibility during PhD studies, doing a literature review, and figuring out PhD goals.
Writing Retreats
Open to participants from all disciplines and at various stages in their academic careers, from Master’s students wanting to publish parts of their theses to full professors needing dedicated writing time. Retreats offer an all-deaf, signing space to write together, with ample writing time, peer-review writing groups, and daily sessions on academic writing tips, time management, and publishing strategies.
